Two men from Birmingham have appeared in court charged with travelling to Syria for terrorism.
Yusuf Sawar and Mohammed Ahmed, of Handsworth, are accused of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts contrary to section 5(1) of the Terrorism Act 2006.
The two 21-year-olds are charged with planning and travelling to Syria in order to engage in acts of terrorism with a jihadist group.
They were arrested on Monday at Heathrow airport after arriving on a flight from Turkey.
The pair, both wearing dark tracksuits, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Saturday morning.
They spoke to confirm their names, addresses, dates of birth and that they understood the charges.
They have been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on January 31.
